Large cavities and dental fractures that damage the biting surfaces of molars and premolars often need to be repaired with an inlay or onlay dental filling. These large fillings are cemented into place with the intention that they repair the biting surface of the tooth for many years.
As time goes on poor oral hygiene habits and other complications such as grinding your teeth, can weaken the dental adhesive holding the dental filling in place.
If an inlay or onlay dental filling is distressed or falls out Dr. Natalya Ramsay might recommend treating it with a dental crown restoration. This method of treatment will replace the entire tooth enamel layer with a durable, alternative material.
The treatment process starts with Natalya Ramsay removing any remaining tooth enamel leaving behind the healthy core of the tooth. This abutment will serve as an eventual anchor for the dental crown.
An impression will be made and sent off to a dental lab, where special dental technicians will create your dental crown. In the interim, a temporary crown will be cemented in place to protect the abutment from harm.
You will need to return to the clinic for a brief follow up appointment when your new dental crown is ready. Dr. Natalya Ramsay will remove the temporary crown and cement your new dental crown onto the abutment.
If you live in the McMinnville, Oregon, area and you have lost a large filling, you should not delay in calling 503-472-1402 to have it treated at Evans Street Dental Center.
